When my kiddo finally decided (at age 20) that it was time for (most of) his enormous Lego collection to go, it was a gut-wrenching moment for me (goodbye childhood!). However, we used this service, which was simple and hassle-free.

This is wonderful to know.

the thing about anti-kink people ive found is that they would rather cut off their tongues than discuss subs who get off on being slapped around and degraded. literally they are incapable of discussing kink without making the entire thing about evil doms hurting their subs so they can get off. idk maybe it’s related to how they can’t make an argument that doesn’t deprive subs/women of autonomy over their own desires & the ability to knowingly consent to kink. because that is their one fucking argument

image

^ example of “their only argument is that women shouldn’t have autonomy over their sex lives and can’t consent”

The Enlightened Radfems have deemed all kinky sex you have as abuse. And since they have decided that this is a fact of your reality, you are incapable of consenting. You may think you can consent, but you can’t- you’re too stupid indoctrinated by the patriarchy to actually think for yourself. You can’t actually know what is hurting you, you need someone else to decide what is right for your body and mind for you. The Enlightened Radfems just want to help you, so you need to ignore everything you think and feel and trust that they know best, they know better than you because they are Educated In Feminism. You need to learn to distrust everything you think and feel, and seek out the advice of Enlightened Radfems to tell you which thoughts are Wrong and which thoughts are Right.

Dislike this? Think its patronizing and eerily similar to how the patriarchy acts towards you? Well, you would think that, because you haven’t been Enlightened. Its in your own best interest for them to ignore all those silly little thoughts about what you “want,” since if you only listened to them you’d realize you don’t actually want the things you want! What do you mean this sounds abusive and extremely controlling! We’re Feminist Females so we’re automatically better and safer!!!!!

What’s fucking wild to me is that I wrote an essay about how being anti-BDSM is an anti-feminist stance… in 2001.

Literally twenty-two years ago, we were having the same discussion.

I wasn’t there for it, but from all my research this has been a thing since at least the early 80s.

Oh yeah, for sure, I just know that like, I personally have been involved in this discussion longer than some of the people in it have been alive, so it’s like…

I swear, Zuko is like a dog with no concept of his actual size compared to others.

Guys I found it. The best comment to ever be on one of my posts.

Zuko is that Chihuahua that tries to fight everything and anything and Uncle Iroh is the dog owner who is constantly apologizing for him and trying to stop him/keep him calm and never succeeding

@attackfish

Thank you for @ing me because I want to talk about this, as a mother to small dogs. Here’s the thing about small dogs who try to fight with everything, they know exactly how small they are. This is in fact why they are like that. They bluster and snarl and bite, because they know they are tiny and they want to make sure you know that in spite of the fact that you could crush them, they will make it painful for you and it’s not worth the effort. And if they don’t do this, they assume you will crush them just because you can. Small fight-filled dogs are scared as shit and they’re not going to let that stop them.

And that’s exactly what Zuko is. He knows he has no power, no authority, no respect, and no support from his people, but he has determination and a willingness to fight and he’s not going to back down even when he has no chance, because if he backs down, no one will ever believe his snarl and his barking ever again. So he goes after an airbending master with fans because losing is better than backing down. He’s scared as shit and he’s not going to let that stop him.

This and the other response are like

Avatar fandom: “check out my fun shitpost about characters as dogs”

Avatar fandom: “actually no wait hang on I can definitely use this to make you cry”

terfs keep mentioning the % of autistics who are trans/nb and that we’re ‘brainwashed’

and because i’m an asshole, i decided to look into why so many autistic folks are trans/nb. it’s not an inaccurate statement, at least the first half, but terfs lie through their teeth so i decided to get to the scientific root of it.

the answer blew my fucking mind.

the study on gender and autism i found said two very specific things about autistic people: we are more mentally resistant to things like social conditioning and binarism. we like our secret third things, y'know.

an excerpt:

“The finding that non-binary identities are most elevated seems to support hypotheses focussed on autistic resistance to social conditioning, which are consistent with existing evidence of the same effect with respect to self-description of sexual orientation. Perhaps elevated rates of trans identity in autism might result from a rejection of the binary cisgenderist norm, which combined with a below-typical concern for social norms could promote the disclosure of the identity.”

94% of autistics surveyed for that paper identified themselves as non-binary.

other studies have found autistic people have higher levels of critical thinking, and require more evidence to maintain or convert to a belief system (hence why many of us eventually fall away from religion) than allistic people.

which means, at least from my perspective, that:

a) the 'brainwashing’ terfs are accusing the trans community of inflicting on autistic folks would likely not even work if they tried.

b) the current binary definition of gender flies directly against embedded autistic modes of thinking to begin with.

you cannot brainwash someone into thinking something they already believe.

This essentially suggests that autistic people are likely to be NB because we are in fact resistant to the relevant brainwashing.

….am I allowed to say “whovians, grab your TARDISes?” You know how it is.

Tumblr loves doing this.  I tried to make a post about the ads that showed actual human penises in them, with screenshots, and it was taken down for violating community guidelines…. unlike the ad, I guess?

The people defending this by saying “they’re not bots they’re sexworkers and sexworkers need a safe space 🥺” are missing the fucking point. According to you, we have to see sexual content without our consent?? According to you, tumblr is allowed to kick out NSFW artists - who could tag and label everything appropriately - while forcing unfiltered content at the very top of every users’ feed??

In the town where I grew up, there was a large statue in one of the parks, of a famous historical white colonizer. I’m not going to say who specifically, suffice it to say that it was someone who wasn’t worth memorializing for their deeds. And as you can imagine, this statue was a frequent target of vandalism, with paint or toilet paper or eggs on multiple occasions. Now, the local council was generally pretty lax when it came to repairing potholes or other public damage in the town, but every time, 24 hours after this particular statue was hit, the same person would always appear in a Hi-Vis vest, hat, mask and sunglasses, carrying a bucket of water, and wash it clean. They would do it as quickly as possible, but always made sure the face and the name carved at the bottom were generously scrubbed. This only encouraged people to do it again, and so it became a vicious cycle.

Within a year, the statue had sustained so much damage that it was unrecognizable and the lettering unreadable, so eventually the council came and took it down. Also apparently, the person in the Hi-Vis vest didn’t even work for the council. They were supposedly just some ‘good samaritan’ who cleaned it, often before the council even discovered it needed cleaning, so they just let them do it and ignored the problem. They didn’t bother putting the statue up again.

Much later, we found out that the anonymous 'samaritan’ had been deliberately washing the statue with a bucket of saltwater, which had dramatically corroded it, causing irreversible accumulative damage far worse than spray paint ever would have done. It’s even theorized that they were also often the one spray-painting it, just so that they had an excuse to come back after a day to wash it.

A good samaritan indeed

Unironically, vegans need to be advocating for more and better sheep, llama, and alpaca farms. Wool is one of the best fabrics we have in terms of versatility, longevity and most importantly, insulation. Even wet, it retains 80% of it’s insulation potential.

AND IT DOESN’T SHED MICROPLASTICS

Like, there’s literally nothing you can do to a sheep that’s as morally reprehensible as dumping plastic down the gullet of literally every other living thing. You wanna talk about animal welfare? Talk about reducing the amount of microplastics produced by rayon, polyester, and spandex.

You are brave as FUCK for saying this, and it’s 100% true.

Wool farming, if done with an eye on animal welfare*, does absolutely nothing to harm a sheep or alpaca. It’s no different than a haircut. And just like a haircut, it’ll grow right back. If your argument is that sheep may be cut in this process—very occasionally a sheep may be nicked. To be clear, I say NICKED, not cut. Think about shaving your legs or face and hitting a bump, and ow, you bleed a couple drops. That is what may, rarely, happen. But RARELY, because farmers are going to take damn good care of the animals who keep them in funds. Should it happen, it’s as much an accident as you finding that bump while shaving.

Likewise y’all should be promoting ethical beekeeping and honey farming. Bees are unique among livestock in that if they don’t like their keeper, if they think the hive is shitty, they can, and will, just…leave. You can’t put a collar or ear tag on a bee. Bee populations are declining and they’re incredibly important in our biodiversity (as pollinators, yes, but also in other ways). And bees do, indeed, make too much honey for themselves. That’s why they swarm. A nest gets too full of comb, or they outgrow it, and they just dip. Swarming is dangerous because it leaves the bees vulnerable—the queen is mostly unprotected, they have only as much food as they could carry with them so if it’s late in the season they’re dead meat, humans spot swarms and freak out and send exterminators because they don’t realize swarms aren’t dangerous as long as you’re calm….it is, BY FAR, better to have bees in a hive that never overfills, where they can be checked for parasites and diseases that would destroy the colony or even an entire apiary and can receive honey substitute rather than starving to death if winter should be particularly harsh or long, and where an excess of their natural product and instincts can be siphoned off for the benefit of humans with no detriment to the bees.

Honey is less harmful to us and to the planet we live on than agave syrup, stevia, or cane sugar. It does not rely on any kind of slave labor (again: if the bees weren’t happy, they’d leave). It does not upset entire economies. And by its nature there are more independent keepers than there are giant conglomerates, which is better all the way around! (Although the conglomerates are trying to change that, so like. Support your local beekeepers.) Plus, old no-longer-needed honeycomb is made of beeswax, which can be used in all manner of things in lieu of more harmful chemicals like phthalates. There is no downside here!

“Never do anything involving an animal ever” should not be the goal. That completely ignores that we are animals that grew up in a complete ecosystem. “Do the least amount of harm and be good stewards, because this planet doesn’t belong to only us” should be the goal.

Wool and honey. We can argue another time about eggs. For right now let’s agree that sheep, goats, alpacas, and bees make far more of these products than they will ever need, that in some cases an excess can even be detrimental to them, and that it is a GOOD THING to find a way to live in balance rather than poisoning our world with “vegan leather.”

*to wit: animals should have plenty of space, shelter, food, and clean water. I love meat and I fucking hate factory farming.

It was kind of interesting to me that out of all the people in our training group, the ones that were the quickest to form social bonds were the people from way out in the country and the city people just kind of quietly kept to themselves.

But I was definitely accepted as one of the bumpkins.

Oh! This is actually an example of Rural vs Urban manners.

In rural/less densely populated areas, the polite thing is to offer people your time and social energy which is why country people will talk your ear off at the slightest acquaintence- it’s kind of lonely when you have to make an effort to see people, so you Make An Effort ™

In Urban/Densely populated areas, you’re meeting people whether you want to or not, because you are physically close to each other constantly. So the Polite Thing there is to kind of ignore other people and keep strictly to business, so you’re not imposing upon thier (probably already drained) soical spoons.

The city folks will warm right up to you once they get to know you well enough to know that talking to you won’t piss you off.

I grew up rural and live in the SF Bay Area now, and this is exactly how it is.

Appropriate city behavior is about *efficiency*, creating the least friction possible in every interaction because everyone has somewhere to be and is trying to pretend they don’t have strangers in their personal bubble *all day long*.

In SF, chatting with the bank teller a second longer than necessary is rude AF because there are 10 people in line and the teller is running behind and you are inconviencing *everyone*. They will deal with 1000 customers today and they genuinely don’t have it in them to form a friendly relationship with you.

In the little forest where I grew up you could stop your car in the middle of a one lane street to chat up a friend on the sidewalk. Any other cars would just go around you. There wasn’t much traffic, it was fine. If you’re one of 50 people the bank teller is gonna see today and there’s no line, it’s actually nice to ask how their day has been and commiserate about the roadwork at the single downtown traffic light.

City & country folks are operating under very different pressures and both are “right”, but it can be hard for city people to remember how to just…shoot the shit with strangers.
